Sage Sustainable Electronics Acquires Relectro to Expand Repair Services for Enterprise IT

Increased repair capabilities offer improved sustainability and lower cost of technology ownership.

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sage Sustainable Electronics (“Sage”), a leading IT asset disposition (ITAD) services provider, has acquired Relectro, a national provider of electronics repair services to warranty programs, insurance firms, and mobile device providers. Sage will leverage Relectro’s technical expertise to expand low-cost post-warranty repair services to enterprise customers who must otherwise rely on cumbersome and expensive options from manufacturers and large ‘break-fix’ maintenance companies.

“Sage customers are extending IT lifecycles to improve both sustainability and financial results,” said Sage CEO Bob Houghton. “Repairing a valuable device to keep it in circulation after the warranty expires just makes economic sense,” according to Houghton. “Extended warranty coverage is often prohibitively expensive, leading customers to recycle out-of-warranty hardware failures as a costly default,” he said.

Relectro performs comprehensive component and board-level repairs on a wide variety of electronics, including mobile phones, laptops, chromebooks, wearables, and gaming devices. Repairs on critical items are often received, repaired, and returned to the owner same-day. Relectro was founded on the idea that electronics repairs should be fast, easy, and affordable.

“Sage was founded on the concept that electronics should never be considered disposable,” stated Relectro President Chris Hawk. “Joining our two companies is a highly complementary combination of capabilities in achieving this concept,” said Hawk.

The Relectro purchase was capitalized by Sage majority shareholder Closed Loop Partners, a leading investor in the circular economy. “Our continuing investment in Sage’s growth and capacity for electronics circularity is fully aligned with Closed Loop Partners’ larger goals to advance the transition to a circular economy,” said Ron Gonen, Closed Loop Partners’ Founder & CEO. “We expect Sage’s environmental impact to grow by orders of magnitude over the next several years,” he said.
