Dawes Leads “I Love L.A.” Show Opener at 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards^®

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To honor the people of Los Angeles and the communities affected by recent wildfires in the region, folk rock band Dawes took to the stage at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards^® to open the show with an inspiring rendition of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” Joined by a supergroup of previously announced GRAMMY^® performers Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, and St. Vincent, Dawes made a surprise appearance at Music’s Biggest Night^®, taking place today at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Singer Taylor Goldsmith and his brother, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, were both affected by the recent wildfires, with Taylor losing his home studio and much of the band’s musical equipment, and Griffin’s home in Altadena burning down in the Eaton Fire.

Dawes now joins an impressive list of artists who have opened the GRAMMY Awards over the years including Beyoncé and Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, U2, and many more.

This year’s GRAMMY telecast has carried a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect others. Since launching the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort To Support Music Professionals on Jan. 9, the Recording Academy^® and MusiCares^® have distributed more than $4 million in emergency aid to nearly 3,000 music professionals affected by the wildfires. In addition, the Recording Academy and MusiCares have partnered with Direct Relief, the California Community Foundation and the Pasadena Community Foundation to further support the city of Los Angeles: funds given to MusiCares Fire Relief during the telecast will be distributed to music professionals and others impacted by the wildfires. GRAMMY^® attendees, viewers, music industry partners, and corporate sponsors have been encouraged to donate throughout the show.
