PowerGEM Acquires Marquette Energy Analytics (MEA)
PowerGEM adds gas and electric demand forecasting to its growing software portfolio
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. & MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PowerGEM, LLC, a leading provider of power grid and energy market simulation software and services, today announced it has acquired Marquette Energy Analytics, LLC (MEA), a leader in natural gas and electric power demand forecasting software and services for utilities. This is the third M&A transaction that PowerGEM has completed since 2024, as it continues to expand its platform to further support the operational and planning needs of energy industry stakeholders.
For over 31 years, MEA has partnered with utilities to deliver the accurate forecasts they require to make data-driven decisions over short and long term time horizons. Used by leading investor-owned and municipal utilities, MEA’s cloud-based forecasting software and complementary consulting services enable utilities to reliably predict natural gas and electric demand to optimize procurement and manage supply risk. Dozens of local distribution companies across the United States rely on MEA’s MCast software suite to make purchasing and supply planning decisions impacting nearly 20 million individual customers.
“MEA has established itself as an industry leader in natural gas demand forecasting, known for its accuracy, excellent customer support, and expert insights,” said Joe DeMatteo, CEO of PowerGEM. “Reliability and rising costs continue to be top challenges faced by both gas and electric utilities. Adding MEA and its MCast forecasting software to the PowerGEM platform enhances our capabilities to address these challenges and continue to innovate to meet our customers’ needs.”
“Marquette Energy Analytics’ collaborative, solutions-oriented approach - grounded in innovation and precision - has helped utilities address some of their most urgent forecasting challenges,” said Tom Quinn, CEO of Marquette Energy Analytics. “Together with PowerGEM, we’ll deliver even greater value by enhancing demand reliability, supporting operational efficiency, and providing the accuracy utilities need - especially during extreme weather events, when reliable demand forecasts are essential to avoid penalties and costly spot market purchases.”
Rapidly growing demand, extreme weather, and transmission and supply constraints are creating greater uncertainty, making maintaining reliability and affordability across energy delivery systems increasingly difficult. With the addition of MEA, PowerGEM’s expanded product portfolio now has broader reach than ever to help energy sector customers solve these challenges.
The PowerGEM and MEA teams will operate as a single organization, with MEA’s co-founder, Tom Quinn, joining as General Manager for MEA.
PowerGEM was represented by Goodwin Procter LLP as legal counsel. MEA was represented by Husch Blackwell LLP as legal counsel and Taureau Group, LLC as financial advisor.
The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
