‘Taiwan Travelogue’ to Be Featured at Brooklyn Book Festival

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With support from the Ministry of Culture (MOC), novelist Yang Shuang-zi (楊双子) and translator Lin King (金翎), whose work “Taiwan Travelogue (臺灣漫遊錄)” won the U.S. National Book Award 2024, will embark on a U.S. tour this September. Yang will also take part in the Brooklyn Book Festival on Sept. 21.

Set during the Japanese colonial period in 1938, “Taiwan Travelogue” explores Taiwan’s history and culture through rail journeys and cuisine, while depicting the relationship between Taiwanese and Japanese women. Following the release of its English edition in 2024, the novel received the U.S. National Book Award and the Baifang Schell Book Prize, marking its unprecedented accomplishment as a Taiwanese novel has achieved such recognition for the first time.

According to the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Yang will join authors Claire Adan and Justin Haynes in a panel discussion at the Brooklyn Book Festival on Sept. 21.

Founded in 2006, the Brooklyn Book Festival has grown into New York’s largest literary event. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the 2025 edition will run from Sept. 14 to 22, featuring performances, readings, seminars, and children’s programs, with an expected 300 writers and 250 publishers in attendance. In 2023, Kevin Chen’s novel Ghost Town (鬼地方) became the first work to represent Taiwan at the festival.
