Congressman Jefferson Shreve Tours YPPI Facility in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rep. Jefferson Shreve, R-Indiana, visited Yamaha Precision Propellers Inc. (YPPI) in Greenfield, Ind., on Sept. 23. Rep. Shreve toured the facility during peak production hours, where employees manufacture stainless steel propellers for Yamaha outboards. The Greenfield plant includes advanced foundry operations such as molten metal casting, machining and finishing. Shreve also met with employees to discuss YPPI’s role in the local economy, workforce needs and the challenges facing marine manufacturing in Indiana.

"This is a significant investment in Hancock County, and the type of investment we want to see and encourage,” said Congressman Jefferson Shreve. “Members have to see and understand the basics to provide buy-in. What you have here (in Hancock County) and in the Indianapolis metro area is access to a talented workforce that can do a lot for our state."

Batuhan Ak, General Manager, Site Lead; David Harner, General Manager, Operations Lead; and Jason Davidson, Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance Manager, led the tour which opened with a brief introduction before moving onto the floor of the foundry. The visit gave YPPI leadership the opportunity to highlight the company’s impact in the region and to share key issues facing the marine manufacturing industry.

“Inviting elected officials to our facilities helps us build relationships and share the realities of our business,” said Ak. “Just as important, it gives them the opportunity to meet the men and women who bring these products to life.”

Strong relationships with elected officials have proven critical to YPPI’s success. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company faced delays in completing construction of its Greenfield facility because travel restrictions prevented technicians from the United Kingdom from entering the United States. Their expertise was necessary to install and train staff on the fully automated shell dipping system. Thanks to the company’s established relationship with then-Congressman Ferguson, YPPI secured the needed visas and finished construction on schedule.

“Elected officials play an important role in supporting a strong workforce pipeline,” said John O’Keefe, Government Relations Senior Specialist, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “When they see firsthand the skill and dedication of our employees, it reinforces the value of investing in manufacturing jobs right here in Indiana.”

Shreve is serving his first year in Congress representing Indiana’s sixth congressional district. His visit to YPPI gave him a deeper understanding of the role the company plays in both the local economy and the broader marine manufacturing sector.
