Morgan Canada Inc. and Société Morgan Transit Inc. Take Action to Protect Fair Competition in Canadian Truck Body Market
BOLTON, Ontario & LAVAL, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morgan Canada Inc. (“Morgan Canada”) and Société Morgan Transit Inc. (“Morgan Transit”) together have taken decisive action to protect fair competition in the Canadian truck body market by filing an antidumping and countervailing (anti-subsidy) duty complaint (the “Complaint”) with the Canada Border Services Agency (“CBSA”).
The Complaint targets unfairly traded imports of truck bodies from the People’s Republic of China, alleging substantial dumping and subsidization that materially distort the Canadian market.
Supported by legal counsel specializing in trade remedies, Morgan Canada and Morgan Transit have compiled compelling evidence demonstrating that Chinese producers benefit from unfair subsidies and pricing practices, enabling them to undercut Canadian-manufactured truck bodies.
The legal process under the Special Import Measures Act (“SIMA”) is expected to move swiftly:
- The CBSA may initiate a public investigation in October 2025.
- Preliminary duties could be imposed by late January 2026, based on initial findings, as the investigation continues.
- Final duties, subject to review by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (“CITT”), may be determined by June 2026.
Morgan expects that the investigation could result in duties of approximately 110% being applied to offset the unfairly traded imports.
Retroactive duties could be imposed on imports entered into Canada after October 2025.
Morgan Canada and Morgan Transit value open markets and fair competition and believe that successful duties will deliver meaningful relief to Canadian truck body manufacturers, protect and expand Canadian jobs by allowing the return of laid-off employees, restore domestic capacity, and guarantee a fair and undistorted competitive market. Morgan considers this complaint is essential to restore a level playing field and protect Canadian jobs and the future of the Canadian industry.
