O'Reilly Launches MCP Server to Embed Learning Directly Into AI Workflows

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--O’Reilly, the premier learning platform for technology professionals, today announced the launch of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which allows customers to integrate the O’Reilly learning platform’s AI-powered search functionality directly into their own LLMs or third-party tools.

Available immediately to O’Reilly enterprise customers, with a wider release to follow, O’Reilly’s MCP server is the first in a series of planned enhancements that let learners incorporate O’Reilly services into the tools they’re already using—giving them the flexibility to access the power and depth of the O’Reilly platform in ways best suited to their needs.

With this release, customers can integrate O’Reilly's personalized content search directly into their teams’ existing AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and VS Code, accelerating the discovery of solutions and learning resources right within the development workflow. Customers building custom AI tools can also leverage the MCP server to match O’Reilly content to specific employee goals and personalized learning paths.

O’Reilly’s MCP server continues the company’s mission to support what Josh Bersin calls “learning in the flow of work.” Now, when O’Reilly members encounter a problem, need to find resources to help understand the code they’ve inherited, or are looking for upcoming live events to meet their yearly learning goals, they can more quickly and easily locate trusted learning resources and get straight back to the task at hand.

“At O’Reilly, we believe open standards like the Model Context Protocol move the industry away from a winner-takes-all AI platform toward something closer to a participatory architecture of cooperating AI agents,” said Julie Baron, chief product officer at O’Reilly. “This protocol-centric approach gives us, and companies like ours, an opportunity to expand our offerings with richer integrations with the tools people use to collaborate, plan, and get work done.”

Future development plans include introducing more granular chapter- and section-level search results, and enabling full conversational interactions that provide teams with instant answers, along with deep links to the source material, when and where they need them. Features like skill mapping, personalized skill plans, hands-on practice, assessments, and more are on the road map for 2026.
