FBI Agents Association: Failure to Reauthorize FISA Provisions Threatens National Security

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Brian O’Hare, President of the FBI Agents Association (FBIAA), representing over 14,000 FBI Special Agents nationwide, issued the following statement:

“Inaction by our leaders in Washington means that our country will be at greater risk when essential FISA authorities expire on Sunday, March 15th. It is unacceptable and dangerous that Congress and the White House have failed to come together to reauthorize provisions that have widespread bipartisan support and are essential to help protect our country from foreign terrorists and spies.

This is not a partisan or political issue, it is a matter of safety and national security. Allowing the roving wiretaps, business records and lone wolves provisions to lapse, even for a short period of time, is reckless and unnecessary.

Congress must put politics aside and reauthorize these FISA provisions immediately.”

FBIAA recently wrote a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler and Ranking Member Doug Collins on the importance of FISA Reform. The letter can be viewed here.
