PMI U.S. Appoints Industry Veteran Peter Diatelevi as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer as Company Expands Smoke-Free Portfolio to Meet Growing Demand

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Philip Morris International Inc.’s (PMI) U.S. business today announced the appointment of Peter Diatelevi as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer. In this role, Diatelevi will report to Seth Kaufman, Chief Commercial Officer, and serve as a member of the PMI U.S. Commercial Leadership Team. Diatelevi succeeds Paul Sammartino, who has made the decision to retire this summer. The company expressed gratitude for Sammartino’s dedicated and dynamic leadership of the sales team, acknowledging his many contributions.

Diatelevi joined PMI U.S. in September 2024, leading trade marketing, the pricing office, and the sales support service team. In this short time, he has driven significant progress across key initiatives and built a reputation as a collaborative, values-driven leader who forges strong stakeholder relationships.

“Pete has already made a significant impact at PMI U.S.,” said Seth Kaufman, Chief Commercial Officer. “His combination of operational discipline, strategic insight, and people-first leadership aligns powerfully with our mission to switch smokers to better alternatives. I’m excited to see the contributions Pete will bring to the sales organization in this next chapter.”

With more than 25 years of leadership experience in sales, general management, and strategic planning, Diatelevi brings deep industry expertise to his new role. Prior to joining PMI U.S., he served as CEO of Boldt Runners Corporation, where he led the company through a period of rapid growth, raising capital, expanding retail distribution, and launching product lines across international markets. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at Altria, including Regional Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Customer Services, where he was instrumental in redesigning sales structures and strategic trade programs and building high-performing teams.

Diatelevi holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. This appointment reflects PMI U.S.’s continued investment in strong leadership to drive progress and meet the growing consumer demand for science-based, smoke-free better alternatives to cigarettes.
