The Pumpkin Express whisks passengers through the majestic redwoods on a 45-minute ride each way, with a magical stop at a hidden redwood glade that has been transformed into a festive pumpkin patch wonderland. Here, children can pick out their very own pumpkin to bring home.

Alongside the pumpkin patch, families can enjoy the crisp autumn air, capture Instagram-worthy photos among the fall colors, and soak in the tranquil beauty of Mendocino County’s towering redwoods. Adult beverages and seasonal treats are available for purchase, making the experience as enjoyable for parents as it is for kids.

“Picking the perfect pumpkin has never been more memorable,” said Efstathios Pappas, General Manager of the Skunk Train. “We’re thrilled to offer Northern California’s only train ride that takes you straight to a pumpkin patch in the heart of the redwoods. It’s become a fall tradition for families, and we look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests this season.”

The Pumpkin Express runs on select dates throughout October. Seating is limited, and tickets are expected to sell quickly.

Tickets and a full schedule are available now at Pumpkin Express. Don’t miss your chance to step into fall magic, because they don’t make them like this anymore.

California Western Railroad / Skunk Train located in the redwood forests of Northern California’s Mendocino County, is a heritage railroad that has been operating both freight and passenger service since 1885. Initially used to move redwood logs to the Mendocino Coast sawmills from the rugged back country, the Skunk Train has become a beloved institution touted as one of the “10 Best Rail Tours in the Country” (USA Today), and a “Top 10 Family Activity in California” (National Geographic Traveler). The Skunk Train journey covers 40 miles of scenic delights and 30 bridges, all while retaining its original charm—minus the historic pungent aroma that once preceded its arrival. Operating year-round, this multi-generational experience welcomes passengers to bring along their families and even their dog, ensuring a memorable and inclusive adventure.
