New Poll: Voters Demand Accountability for Wasteful Healthcare Spending

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) continues to be a costly and unaccountable encroachment on healthcare

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) released a new national poll showing the American people want Congress to take action to eliminate bureaucratic waste at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). The poll, which surveyed 1,600 voters, found strong opposition to CMMI’s performance, its $10 billion per decade budget, and its unchecked imposition of one-size-fits-all healthcare models that could undermine patient care.

61 percent of voters agree that CMMI models that fail to generate savings should be eliminated.

The results of CCAGW’s new poll show that:

  • 61 percent of voters agree that CMMI models that fail to generate savings should be eliminated;
  • Only 29 percent of voters believe CMMI’s $10 billion per decade budget is a smart use of taxpayer dollars;
  • More than 75 percent of voters are concerned that CMMI increases government interference over personal healthcare decisions and agree that Congress should establish safeguards over CMMI to protect patients from mandatory policy changes.

“This poll further proves that Americans are fed up with the waste and restrictions created by bloated and unaccountable government healthcare programs. They understand and agree that CMMI has failed to deliver on its promises, and continues to waste billions of taxpayer dollars, while putting patient care at risk through its mandatory, one-size-fits-all models,” said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. “Voters are sending a clear message: Congress should act immediately to rein in CMMI’s waste and abuse to protect both taxpayers and the integrity of the U.S. healthcare system.”
